Christ Church Grosse Pte, Grosse Pointe Farms, Wayne County, MI #1
Christ Church Grosse Pointe (Episcopal), designed by the firm of Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue Associates, stands as an excellent example of Neo-Gothic ecclesiastical architecture based loosely on English Gothic precedents. Although it was originally designed to be the chapel to a much larger edifice, Christ Church Grosse Pointe as completed in 1930 stands as an architectural treasure in its own right. High architectural and artistic values were integrated into the church's design; stained glass by H.L. Willet, DeRaniere Studios of Detroit, and Detroit Stained Glass Co. and the fine wood carving of the reredos by Mowbray & Co., Ltd. of London and the rood beam and other furnishings by J. Jungwirth Co. and Pom-McFate Co. of Detroit exemplify this striving towards harmony of arts and crafts and architecture. Miller Hall (1941) and the rectory (1938) harmonize with the church edifice through their English Cottage and Neo-Tudor styles. The Education Building (1955), designed to complement the church's other more traditional buildings, possesses exceptional significance as the work of the internationally known architect, Minoru Yamasaki.
Christ Church Grosse Pointe is a Modern Gothic ecclesiastical structure comprised of the church proper with an attached two-story office/instructional wing and a cloister now enclosed. In plan, the church is a Latin cross with a fifty foot high tower at its northeast corner. It was faced with sandstone quarried in Clearville, Pa., selected because of its iridescence in sunlight. The pitched roof with cross gables over the transepts are covered with graduated slate with copper ridges and a copper spire. Stained glass windows by Willet & Sons of Philadelphia, DeRaniere Studios of Detroit and Detroit Stained Glass Co. add to the medieval character of the building, as do the wood truss roof, wooden carving, and flagstone floors of the sanctuary. Ancillary buildings to the rear of the church are situated around the perimeter of the parking lot: they are the International style Education Building of brick, glass and steel; Miller Hall, of stucco and half timbering, and the Rectory, of stucco, brick and stone, the latter two in the Tudor Revival style. All of the church's facilities are in excellent condition and mostly unaltered.

The Christ Church Chapel is a religious building located at 61 Grosse Pointe Blvd. in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. It is also known as the Christ Church Grosse Pointe or the Christ Episcopal Church. It was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1992 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.The Grosse Pointe Episcopal congregation began as a branch of Christ Church Detroit in 1923, with Sunday school held in local homes while worship services were still conducted in the main church on Jefferson Avenue. By 1928, work had begun on the construction of a building for the congregation. The building, completed in 1930, was initially referred to as a "chapel," because it was intended to be one element of a larger building. Two more buildings were added to the complex over the next eleven years: the rectory in 1938 and Miller Hall in 1941. In 1947, the congregation was given the status of a full parish. An education building, designed by Minoru Yamasaki, was added in 1955. Further additions were made during the latter half of the century, and in 2000 the education building was torn down and replaced with a new education wing. The Neo-Gothic chapel is built in a Latin cross configuration with a 50-foot (15 m) tower at one corner. The narthex is designed to be similar to the Chapter House of Wells Cathedral, and the cloister (enclosed in 1957) is modeled after the one at Canterbury Cathedral. The exterior of the chapel is covered with iridescent sandstone. The roof is covered with slate, with copper ridges and a copper spire. The church includes stained glass windows created by H. L. Willet, DeRaniere Studios of Detroit, and by the Detroit Stained Glass Company. The interior is constructed of limestone, with a flagstone floor. It boasts fine wood carvings, with the reredos crafted by London's Mowbray & Co., Ltd. and the rood beam and other pieces by J. Jungwirth Co. and Pom-McFate Co. of Detroit.Miller Hall and the rectory are built in a complementary Tudor Revival style.• Christianity portal• Christ Church Grosse Pointe
