Built c.1910 the Endicott House is illustrative of Bloomfield Hills' pattern of suburban development. It meets Criterion A as one of the last representatives of the early twentieth-century gentlemen's farm/suburban estates in Bloomfield Hills and the surrounding township. The house was built by John Endicott, a well-known Detroit businessman, and his wife during the era when such estates were popular. Among many business endeavors, Endicott was best known as the treasurer for the prominent Detroit department store, Newcomb-Endicott Co. The Endicott House also meets Criterion C as a good local representative of an Arts and Crafts interpretation of the Dutch Colonial Revival style.
The Endicott House is a two-story wood-frame Arts and Crafts influenced Dutch Colonial Revival house constructed c.1910. It is located at the southern edge of the municipality of Bloomfield Hills. The house sits roughly in the center of a 1.25 acre corner lot with a new garage behind it. The yard rises slightly upward from Chesterfield Road. A slope of several feet down toward Endicott Road is at the western edge of the lot. The rear and eastern property line is wooded. Around the house are landscaped flower beds and mature trees. Like most of Bloomfield Hills, the Endicott House is situated in a quiet residential area. The surrounding terrain contains gently rolling hills and numerous small lakes. The northwest-facing front facade features a wraparound porch supported by fieldstone piers. The roofline of the porch has a pedimented projection in the center. The porch rail is a simple wooden balustrade. The original porch floor was replaced with new tongue and groove boards and the original ceiling was replaced with new bead-board in 1987. The house has a random-course fieldstone foundation.
