Physical Description
The Rollin Sprague Building/Old Stone Store is a two-story gable front building with walls of coursed cobblestone construction, located on the northeast corner of Main and Third Streets in Rochester's central business district. The building's facade replicates a Late Victorian pressed metal facade constructed in 1899, while still retaining most of its original coursed cobblestone construction and some Greek Revival trim. It measures twenty-four feet one inch by fifty feet two inches, resting on a fieldstone foundation. The original cedar shake roofing remains under several layers of asphalt shingles. The front facade was remodeled in 1995-1996 to replicate its 1899 appearance, based on designs by architect Gerald J. Yurk. The interior has been modified over the years to accommodate various uses, including a bakery and retail space.
