Common questions

How is a portrait sitting different from a headshot?
A headshot is a deliverable for a job—same lighting, same crop, same purpose across the whole gallery. A portrait sitting is open-ended. We shoot wide, we shoot tight, we shoot you laughing at something off-camera, we shoot you looking at the window. You pick the images that feel like you. Most sittings produce 30-60 candidates; you keep the ones you want at $149 first, $99 after.
Can the sitting happen at my house, my kid's school, or somewhere with personal meaning?
Yes. On-location is $299 and includes anywhere in metro Detroit—Belle Isle, the Detroit Institute of Arts (with their permission), the Ford House, a Pewabic tile floor, your kitchen. Recent shoots have been at the Fisher Building, the Renaissance Center, the Michigan Theater, and the Russell Industrial Center.
What do I wear?
Solid colors over patterns; structured over slouchy. Bring two or three outfits—we'll shoot through them in an hour. If the portrait is for a specific use (LinkedIn, a book jacket, a press kit), send us a reference and we'll match the register.
Do you retouch?
Yes, by hand—no AI filters, no skin-smoothing apps. We do what a magazine retoucher does: even out lighting, remove temporary blemishes, soften distractions in the background. We don't reshape faces or bodies.
How fast do I get the images?
One hand-edited preview before you leave. The full color-corrected gallery within 48 hours. Same-day delivery is available on request.
Do you photograph families, maternity, or engagement portraits?
Yes. See the portfolio above—families at the DIA, the Renaissance Center, the Fisher Building; engagement sessions at the Ford House and Belle Isle; maternity at Belle Isle's back beach. Same $149/$299 pricing.
