Family photo locations in Detroit
Every location below links to a real family session we shot there.
Belle Isle
Open lawns, the river, and golden-hour light — the classic Detroit family backdrop, and our favorite spot for maternity sessions. Aim for the last hour before sunset: the light goes gold off the water and the crowds thin out.
Detroit Institute of Arts
Marble halls and grand staircases for a dressed-up family portrait that feels like the city — and it's indoors, so weather never cancels the session.
Renaissance Center
Riverfront views and modern architecture — great for families who want the skyline in the frame.
Fisher Building
The gilded arcade of Detroit's largest art object — unforgettable holiday-card material.

Your Detroit family photographer
Every session is photographed by Andrew Petrov — the same photographer behind the studio's 256+ five-star reviews. No rotating shooters, no subcontractors on family work: the person who answers your questions is the person behind the camera, and the one hand-retouching your images afterward.
Every photographer's website says they're great with kids. Ask Andrew and you get a shrug: “Everybody's good with kids — they're not that hard.” The session has no clock on it, so toddlers get their breaks, nobody performs on a deadline, and the honest frames come on their own. The hard part is what happens after the shutter — retouching each portrait by hand until it's worth hanging on a wall.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does family photography cost in Detroit?
You pay only for the finished images you love — not for a package of files you will never print. In the studio it is $149 for your first image and $99 for each after; on location — Belle Isle, the DIA, the Fisher Building, your own backyard — it is $299 for the first and $149 for each after. There is no session fee, no hourly charge, and no minimum: you can shoot for three hours and take home a single portrait.
What ages do you photograph?
We photograph families with children of all ages—from newborns to grandparents. Our patient, relaxed approach works great with little ones, and we know how to capture authentic moments even with wiggly toddlers.
Can we bring our pets?
Yes. Pets are family too. We love including dogs, cats, and other pets in family portraits. Just let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly.
What should we wear for family photos?
We recommend coordinating (not matching) outfits in complementary colors. Think earth tones, jewel tones, or soft neutrals. Avoid logos and busy patterns. We're happy to help with outfit selection before your session.
How long does a family session take?
Family sessions typically run 60-90 minutes, but we offer unlimited time—no rushing. This allows for outfit changes, breaks for little ones, and plenty of time to capture both posed portraits and candid moments.
